The Pub Scene

Figuring that tutorials will soon take over our lives, we've made it a point to enjoy the pub scene now, which has been great fun.  Our growing list includes the following:

The King's Arms
The Eagle and Child
The Turf Tavern
The Royal Oak

Incidentally, The Eagle and Child on St. Giles Street happens to be the pub where C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien hung out and, as I imagine, shared a few drinks, laughs, and witty remarks.  The food was great (Clair and I both ate chicken sandwiches) and the raspberry cider was delicious as well.  Definitely recommend it!

Exhibit A: The Eagle and Child, aka "The Bird and the Babe"

Cider is much more popular here than in the US.  So are "fish and chips" for that matter - British "chips" being American "fries" and American "chips" being .... well, I haven't figured that out yet, but I don't like chips much anyway, so that's okay.  Mickey was adventurous one night and tried "potted beef."  And it really was potted - so much so that we didn't recognize it as beef.  In fact, we thought it was a candle.  At any rate, Mickey ate it, and he's still doing just fine.  Cheers!
